History
The University was chartered as the state’s agricultural school in 1888. The Oliver Watson farm was purchased as a site for the school, and the old farmhouse, now restored, still stands on the campus. The school became the Rhode Island College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in 1892, and the first class of 17 members was graduated two years later.
Education
Faculty are the heart of any institution of higher learning, and that is particularly true at the University of Rhode Island. We are proud of the distinguished scholars and researchers who make up our faculty and of the excellence and commitment to their students they demonstrate in the classroom, laboratory, and in their role as mentors and advisors.
Research
Our researchers are helping scientists understand the volume of sea ice production and improve climate models of deep ocean currents. Visionary creative thinkers are imagining new ways of experiencing music and the visual arts that encourage inclusion and diversity. Innovators are isolating new molecules from blooms of cyanobacteria for potential use as therapeutics against a wide range of diseases.
Career
The College of Business annual Career Day is a much anticipated tradition at URI. The day provides a tremendous opportunity for business students to convene with alumni and corporate partners to learn about different career paths, understand what you can do with your major, hiring tips, and the current employment climate.

ISI Review
I am really proud to be a student at the prestigious Higher Institute of Computer Science, Ariana which is considered among the top universities in Tunisia. The university has expert and friendly overall teachers who try to transmit knowledge to us. The thing that I want my university to start doing is to establish more conventions with different universities abroad so exchange experiences happen between the two sides.

Student services
The graduates are powerful and inspirational reminders of the most important outcome of the University’s work: The education of people who are better prepared and empowered to pursue their hopes and aspirations, and to do so with respect, understanding, and appreciation for others.
Housing services
Between the Quad and the athletics complex – with its gymnasiums, athletic fields, tennis courts, and aquatic center – our students learn and live in state-of-the-art, environmentally award-winning academic buildings. About 6,000 undergraduates live in range of student residence halls, and fraternity and sorority houses.
Library services
The Libraries serve the knowledge and information needs of the University community and the general public. You can find information, get research assistance, or study at the Robert L. Carothers Library and Learning Commons in Kingston or at our two branch locations: the College of Continuing Education Library in Providence and the Pell Marine Science Library at the Narragansett Bay Campus.
ICT services
Of course URI is fully networked, with classroom media support services, multi-media development services, and instructional support provided by URI’s office of Information Technology Services (ITS). In our residence halls, students have access to both wired and wireless internet service, and all general-purpose classrooms are equipped with multi-media equipment and wireless support.
Medical services
The Health Services Fee ensures that the facility and staff are available to provide quality care to students in need of health care. All full-time students are eligible to be seen at Health Services, regardless of their insurance. If their insurance does not cover the provider visit, the student will not be responsible for the office visit charge.
Campus life
