Sport, fitness and wellbeing
At the University of Waikato, sport and fitness are an important part of student life, offering opportunities to stay active, build connections and achieve personal goals across both Hamilton and Tauranga campuses.
Hamilton Campus features some of the most comprehensive university sports facilities in New Zealand, including UniRec Gym, extensive sports fields, indoor and outdoor courts, fitness spaces and New Zealand’s first purpose-built university Esports Arena. Students can access a wide range of fitness classes, recreational activities and competitive sports.
Tauranga Campus provides access to modern fitness and recreation facilities through partnerships with local providers, while high-performance sports facilities such as the Adams Centre for High Performance and Grassroots Trust Velodrome support elite training, research and sports science.
Whether competing, staying active or connecting with friends, Waikato provides a supportive environment where students can thrive beyond the classroom.
