About

History

Founded in 1865 as a land-grant institution adjacent to downtown Lexington, UK is nestled in the scenic heart of the beautiful Bluegrass Region of Kentucky. From its early beginnings, with only 190 students and 10 professors, UK’s campus now covers more than 918 acres and is home to more than 30,000 students and approximately 13,500 employees, including more than 2,300 full-time faculty, and operates an annual budget of nearly $3.9 billion.

Research

UK has more than 350 active partnerships with more than 100 universities worldwide to support research, student and faculty exchange, cultural exchange & faculty development. UK has 55 research centers and a nationally-ranked library with more than 4.6 million volumes.

Services

Student services

International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) provides a number of services for current international students, including support and information about student employment, health coverage and others. ISSS provides immigration advising which allows international students to achieve their academic, professional and research goals. By facilitating cross-cultural connections we create opportunities to develop a sense of belonging at UK.

Library services

UK Libraries provides ever-expanding access to quality information resources, teaching and learning programs and services, and excellent learning spaces. UK Libraries plays an essential role in the University’s goal to elevate the quality of life and enhance the intellectual and economic capital within Kentucky.

UK Libraries consists of nine major facilities: William T. Young Library, Agricultural Information Center, Hunter M. Adams College of Design Library, Education Library, John A. Morris Equine Library and Information Services, Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library, Medical Center Library, Science and Engineering Library, and the Special Collections Research Center. UK Libraries also manages the Lexmark Library.

Medical services

University Health Service is your source for employee and student health care. The physicians are board-certified in family practice, internal medicine, gynecology/genitourinary care (GYN/GU), psychiatry, and occupational medicine. In addition to the physicians, the nurse practitioners have certification in family medicine, women's health, psychiatry and emergency medicine.

What's it really like to be a Wildcat? In a word – awesome! The University of Kentucky can provide you with a world-class education, filled with the possibility of new ideas and learning experiences that will prepare you for the future. But life on campus also offers plenty of other experiences beyond what takes place solely in a classroom.

Living on campus makes it easy to meet new people who share your interests; UK's Living Learning Program allows you to live and study subjects and topics with other students right in your residence hall. Outside your room, you can explore dozens of great dining options ranging from home-cooking to international fare.

And you can make sure you stay in shape at the Johnson Center, a state-of-the-art fitness facility; it features the latest workout equipment, basketball and racquetball courts and a rock-climbing wall right in the middle of it all.

Sports facilities

The Club Sports at the University of Kentucky provides opportunities for students‚ faculty‚ and staff who desire a more in-depth sports experience than is provided in the Intramural and/or open recreation program. 

The focus of the Club Sports blends the aspects of learning new skills‚ practicing with club members‚ and possibly competing with other clubs. It also provides a great opportunity to meet new people and become more involved with campus life at the University of Kentucky.

Student clubs

Getting involved in a student organization is not just fun and games (though they are a lot of fun); it's about making you a happier and more successful Wildcat. Research shows that students who are involved with a student organization are more connected to their university and perform better in the classroom. And with more than 450 student organizations, there's an activity for you at the University of Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral Degrees.

When I came to UK, I was beyond excited to get a fresh start at an out of state college. I am a member of a business honors cohort and a sorority, so I have definitely been able to make a large campus very close-knit. While I do love the classes I am taking, I find that most are not as challenging as I was expecting from college courses. This factor really helps my GPA,...
