About
History
- The University of Memphis was founded under the auspices of the General Education Bill, enacted by the Tennessee Legislature in 1909. Known originally as West Tennessee State Normal School, the institution opened its doors in 1912, with Dr. Seymour A. Mynders as president.Today, the University of Memphis is one of Tennessee's three comprehensive doctoral- extensive institutions of higher learning.

- We are home to the largest honors program in the state of Tennessee. Top academic performers with big ambitions find a rich, diverse experience through our Helen Hardin Honors Program. Research
- Memphis Research Consortium (MRC) promotes collaboration among The University of Memphis, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the medical device industry, and Memphis hospitals.The Office for the Vice President for Research supports University of Memphis faculty's scholarship of discovery and innovation across our campuses. We work to promote research and creative activities by focusing on interdisciplinary scholarship, facilitating partnerships from local to international, and enabling our faculty to move the products of their work from the laboratory, classroom, field and studio to the community.
Career
- Career Services seeks to complement the academic mission of the University by educating and empowering students to take ownership of their professional development as lifelong learners and to function successfully in a global society. Furthermore, Career Services provides programs and services that create opportunities for employers, students, faculty, and staff to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships that meet the needs of an evolving workforce.Our services include individual career planning, resume critiquing, mock interviewing, and job search preparation. We also seek to build strong partnerships with the university and Memphis community at-large.

After calculating and comparing these criteria, ARWU ranks the universities accordingly.

Student services
- The University of Memphis believes that the presence of international students on campus enriches the educational environment for all. The University of Memphis is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students on the F-1 student visa. We accept only students with the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree--16 years of formal schooling.
Housing services
- The University Of Memphis campus offers eight different residence halls and Graduate and Student Family Housing for graduate students or students who are married or have families. Whether you are interested in a traditional style residence hall or apartment style living, The University of Memphis has accommodations to meet your needs.Our goal is to provide each student with a living environment that is safe, comfortable, and will enhance your academic, intellectual, cultural, spiritual, and social development.
Library services
- The University of Memphis University Libraries is a leader in providing access to and managing information services and resources to support teaching, learning, and research for the University of Memphis community. The University Libraries have a wealth of information resources available electronically, and these will be available to UofM at Lambuth students, faculty and staff via the web.

Campus life
- Our historical and residential campus in Jackson, Tennessee. Offering students the perfect collegiate setting on 57 acres in midtown Jackson, UofM Lambuth is classified as an arboretum and displays year-round beauty. In addition to over 20 undergraduate majors and minors, students can also obtain a variety of master's or doctorate degrees.
Sports facilities
- The UofM is a charter member of the American Athletic Conference and our athletic programs compete at the highest level as an NCAA Division I institution. It's the south, so athletics are big. But this is also Memphis, so athletics bring us together to be proud, eat some barbeque and have some good times.
Student clubs
- We have set up a convenient portal for students to find anything and everything about Registered Student Organizations at the UofM. You could browse existing organizations and join one or more that interests you, or start a new organization of your own, re-register your existing organization.
Accreditation
- The University of Memphis is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award bachelor's, first professional, master's, educational specialist's, and doctoral degrees.

Good university . One thing I don’t like is regarding Graduate assistantships most of them are already occupied by Indians and they give them to their family siblings like that and others don’t get the opportunity.I’m also an Indian but that’s the truth
