
Overview
Faculty members in the Counseling Division at University of Memphis are dedicated to furnishing each student admitted to the program an array of opportunities to become informed counselors and to develop a professional identity as a counselor. Students graduating with a Master of Science degree in Counseling in one of the four concentrations, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling, and the Counselor Education and Supervision Ph.D. program will be committed to the counseling profession, manifest an array of clinical skills, demonstrate an understanding of diverse client populations, and be dedicated to providing evidenced-based services. These programs are accredited by CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) and adhere to CACREP based outcomes to maintain the highest standards of professional training.
Opportunities
Graduates of the MS program are prepared to assume counseling positions in various employment settings to include but not limited to: school settings, community agencies, private practice, and/or not-for-profit organizations located in metropolitan, rural and global settings. Individuals admitted into the program will learn in an environment created to afford students opportunities to realize academic, professional, and personal success.
The Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Supervision is designed to prepare Counselor Educators, researchers, and supervisors.

General requirements
Applicants must apply to the Graduate School and to the program. The Master of Science degree in Counseling is a limited access program; not all eligible candidates are admitted. To be considered for admission, applicants must provide:
- official undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts of all academic work completed,
- submit a Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score,
- complete a program admission application including appropriate goals essay,
- provide three letters of academic and/or professional reference,
- undergo an interview with the faculty.
