Description

The United Methodist Dollars for Scholars (UMDFS) program involves matching support from a student’s church, UMHEF, as well as participating United Methodist-related schools and UMC conference foundations.

Benefits

A student’s church offers support with $1,000 (on a church check sent directly to UMHEF by the deadline after the student has applied). Eligible churches include United Methodist Church, African Methodist Episcopal Church, AME Zion Church, and Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. If your church has recently disaffiliated from The UMC but would like to sponsor you, please contact us to discuss your options.

UMHEF matches that for a total of $2,000 (while funds last).

Participating United Methodist-related schools may match with $1,000.

For United Methodist applicants, participating UMC Conference Foundations may match up to $1,000.

Your UM Dollars for Scholars scholarship may total up to $4,000.

Eligibility

All students must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be an active, full member of The United Methodist Church, African Methodist Episcopal Church, AME Zion Church, or Christian Methodist Episcopal Church for at least one year prior to applying.
  • Strong preference is given to students enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time degree program (graduate or undergraduate) at a regionally accredited United Methodist-related college, university, or seminary in the United States. A list of these schools can be found here. In rare cases, students attending non-UM-related schools may also be awarded.
  • For those applying for the UM Dollars for Scholars program, you must be attending a school that participates in the program.
  • Doctor of Ministry students are eligible to apply. All other doctoral (including PhD and any other doctorate-level program) candidates are not eligible at this time.
  • Applications for international students studying outside the U.S. are now closed.
