Studying Pharmacy at the University of Barcelona has been a very rewarding and demanding experience that allowed me to grow both academically and personally. The degree provided me with a strong scientific foundation in areas such as pharmacology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical technology, and healthcare, while also helping me develop discipline, responsibility, and critical thinking skills. It is a challenging degree, but one where students learn a great deal and gain a broad understanding of the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. One of the aspects I appreciated the most was the opportunity to combine theoretical learning with practical experience. During my studies, I completed both curricular and extracurricular internships at BCN Peptides, which allowed me to gain valuable insight into the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. This experience helped me apply academic knowledge in a professional environment and strengthened my interest in continuing my career within this field. Another important aspect is that many Pharmacy students already work in community pharmacies while completing their degree. This professional experience gives students practical skills, direct contact with patients, and a better understanding of the profession from an early stage. I believe universities should place greater value on the experience students acquire while working during their studies. Regarding the supervised professional placements (“pràctiques tutelades”), which are mandatory and represent 24 ECTS credits, I believe there is room for improvement. Currently, placements are mainly limited to hospital or community pharmacy settings. In my opinion, students should also have the possibility to complete these placements in pharmaceutical companies or industry-related environments, depending on their professional interests. In addition, considering the level of responsibility and the large number of credits involved, it would be positive if these placements were financially compensated. I also think laboratory training could be improved. Instead of having laboratory sessions lasting only a few days for each subject, it would be more beneficial to organize longer and more continuous laboratory internships, for example lasting one or two months. This would allow students to gain deeper laboratory experience, improve technical skills, and better understand real working dynamics in research or industrial laboratories. Overall, I would describe my experience as highly valuable, intense, and motivating. Despite the difficulty of the degree, it has provided me with strong academic preparation, practical experience, and a clearer vision of my future professional goals.
