About

History

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa was founded on the 11th of August 1973, and is the youngest of Lisbon’s three state Universities.

Education

Teaching of excellence, with a growing emphasis in the second and third cycles, but based on solid primary cycle levels, through competitive academic programmes at national and international level, praising merit as the essential measure of assessment.

Research

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa has a unique set of research and teaching competences in health, in Portugal.

NOVA’s scientific expertise covers a wide range of areas, going from basic research, the molecule, to health policies, on the population and patient’s bedside. A major challenge to Universidade NOVA de Lisboa is to take the significant potential that exists to further development in research, teaching and contribution to society. Increasing general awareness of the activities developed by each research centre and of the interests and competences of the University’s researchers and faculty staff is also a central element to capitalize on this potential.

Career

NOVA has been particularly focused on favoring the employability of its students of all study cycles. The university supports students from the first day and all along the way by giving them access to a set of tools and assisting them with the development of competences for an effective job search using NOVA’s Job Portal as well as benefiting from the career offices that exist in each school.

The path followed by the student after obtaining the degree is also examined with particular attention. This study is mostly performed by the ObipNova - Observatory of Graduates’ Transitions into Work at NOVA, launched in 2011.

The reason you should study in UNL
José Mateus rated 5 out of 5 stars
In Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), there's a perfect balance between studies and social life. I can honestly say that I had the most exciting social life, while managing to achieve a relatively high average on the Biochemistry course. I should say that the teachers are really great when compared to what I've heard from colleagues studying in other universities, and so that might be the parti...
