Founded in 1820, Indiana University Bloomington is the flagship campus of IU’s eight campuses statewide. Innovation, creativity, and academic freedom are hallmarks of our world-class contributions in research and the arts.
An Indiana University Bloomington education transforms you.
Whether you’re an undergraduate or graduate student, whether you’re from South Bend, San Antonio, or Shanghai, you’ll encounter ideas and have experiences that help you refine your goals, develop the skills to reach them, and put you on the path to success.
Momentous IU breakthroughs and inventions—like the structure of DNA and the fluoride in our toothpaste—are part of a legacy of transforming how we live through research. IU researchers study an enormous range of interests, tackling the big questions in one of the most respected and exciting environments for discovery.
As a student at Indiana University, it’s your job to explore uncharted territories, discover new facets of your personality, and find the things you’re most passionate about.
There are endless academic and extracurricular options to choose from—each with the power to send you in a whole new direction.
We’re here to help you, of course. Your academic and career advisors serve as your guides, ensuring you stay on a path that leads to success. But you get to plot the course.
RPS serves everything from hearty breakfasts to midnight snacks in its many locations across campus.
Although most RPS dining facilities are located in residence halls, it also makes healthy (and not so healthy) snacks available in classroom buildings and library facilities through its Campus Cafes.
We have plenty of traditional residence hall options, with shared rooms, communal living spaces, and handy food courts. You'll also find apartments for those who need some space, private rooms for those who tend toward the introverted side, and co-op kitchen facilities for those who want to cook their own food.

IU Health Center specializes in care for college-aged patients. College students have special health needs. You're living and studying in close quarters, which means increased exposure to colds, flu, and other infectious diseases. You're juggling school, work, and social obligations–and that's stressful. For the first time, you're making a lot of your own choices about your health. And you don't have a lot of time to spend waiting to see a doctor.
We pride ourselves on having a globally minded campus, where everyone is respected and celebrated for their unique contributions to our culture. As such, you can expect to feel accepted and welcome regardless of your race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
And you’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore other cultures and perspectives through your academic choices, extracurricular activities, residential community, and more.
Hoosiers take athletics seriously. Whether you’re watching football, basketball, or any of the 22 other team sports at IU, you’ll notice that the stands are a sea of cream and crimson.
And while every Hoosier fan prefers to win, in the end it doesn’t matter. It’s all about supporting your team—and being part of something bigger than yourself.
Fraternities and sororities have partnered with Indiana University since 1845. Though much has changed over the years, the core values of these organizations have remained the same. There are 74 fraternities and sororities at IU involving over 8,200. Greek organizations seek to provide members with opportunities to lead, serve, build positive relationships, and grow intellectually.
