About

The M.S. in Bioinformatics is a two-year professional program at Indiana University Bloomington that emphasizes computation and informatics but also integrates knowledge from biology, mathematics, and related areas. It prepares students to pursue a bioinformatics career or admission to a Ph.D. program.

Overview

The Bioinformatics group’s chief aim is to better understand life through an application of a mix of established disciplines: computer science, statistics, life sciences, molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, etc.

We seek to model, discover, and manage biological data typically through computational means—either creating applications directly or employing existing tools for both us and the bioinformatics community at large.

Because bioinformatics is a shared endeavor, our closely-knit group actively collaborates not only with each other, but throughout the IU Bloomington campus, with other academic institutions, and with private industry.

Our mission

The School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering includes the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana University Bloomington and the School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI. The mission of the School is to excel and lead in education, research, and outreach spanning and integrating the full breadth of computing and information technology, including the scientific and technical core, a broad range of applications, and human and societal issues and implications.
