Overview

The Athletic Administration and Sports Management program was founded in 1985 in response to a growing demand for better-qualified managers and administrators in professional and amateur sport. Since then the graduate sport management program has produced more than 150 graduates who are currently employed in the fields of professional, collegiate, and amateur sport.

Key features

The course work provides an interdisciplinary approach to the study of sport management intended to provide a thorough foundation in business and sport while allowing flexibility for students to explore a wide variety of opportunities within the field. Emphasis is placed on the production, facilitation, promotion, and organization of sport products and services.

Because the $510 billion sport industry demands sport communicators, marketers, administrators, and managers with a specialized combination of functional business and sport management skills, the athletic administration and sport management program at IU is intended to serve students who have a desire to be involved in any aspect of the commercial sport-related enterprise.
