Oxford Brookes University began life as the Oxford School of Art in 1865.
Five years later the School of Science was incorporated. In 1891 the School was taken over by the Technical Instruction Committee (part of Oxford City Council), and renamed Oxford City Technical School.
Over the years there were more merges and name changes. Finally in 1992 it was named Oxford Brookes University.

We are home to 10 National Teaching Fellows - the most prestigious award for excellence in higher education teaching. Our National Teaching Fellows work across a range of subjects from geography and architecture to business and education. Our academics also take part in innovative schemes which add value to their teaching.

My experience at Oxford Brookes University has been both rewarding and transformative. Studying Business and Marketing Management has allowed me to develop a strong balance of creativity and strategy, helping me understand not only how brands communicate, but how ideas can be turned into meaningful engagement. What I�ve valued most about Oxford Brookes is the way the course combines academic learning with practical application. Alongside building knowledge in digital marketing, communication, and audience engagement, I�ve also been able to strengthen my creative skills in content creation, photography, and Adobe Photoshop. This has helped me grow in confidence and develop a more well-rounded approach to marketing. My internship experience in social media and digital marketing has complemented my studies well, and Oxford Brookes has played an important role in helping me connect theory with real-world practice. It has strengthened my ability to create content for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok in a way that feels audience-focused, authentic, and aligned with wider brand goals. Overall, Oxford Brookes has been a supportive place to grow both personally and professionally. It has helped me turn ideas into action, build confidence in my abilities, and develop into a more thoughtful, creative, and strategic marketer.
I am throughly enjoying my experience at University. It is a small university and I love the fact that you always bump into your friends and everyone is a familiar face. The town of Oxford is such a wonderful place to live and study.
Generally good teaching quality and social life, with plenty to do and opportunities to expand your social circle. Courses can be challenging but often rewarding, but the online learner systems and navigation still have room for improvement. On a side note, there can be some issues with gym facilities, equipment, scheduling, staff approachability etc.

Oxford Brookes offers accommodation for new and existing full-time students who wish to live in our halls and shared houses.
We guarantee that all full-time first-year international students starting in September will be offered accommodation as long as you apply by the deadline and meet the academic criteria for your offer.
Oxford benefits from an extensive public transport network with some local services stopping near/ outside certain campuses.
The main entrance to Headington Library is on Level 1 of the John Henry Brookes Building (JHBB). The Library is located on six floors and with lift / stair access available at each level. Accessible toilets can be found on all floors.
Individual silent and quiet study spaces are available throughout each floor on Levels 2 - 4 and in the Basement.
The IT directorate supports the University's strategic goals of enhancing the student experience, research and knowledge exchange, enabling international and partnership engagement and contributing to the development of infrastructure and services.
ITS works together to deliver secure, reliable, flexible and sustainable services to students and staff, across 19 sites including the 3 campuses.
Brookes has a Medical Centre on campus which has doctors and nurses who offer a full, confidential medical service. You should register with the Medical Centre when you first arrive, rather than waiting for when you are sick.
Harcourt Hill Campus is 3 miles from Oxford city centre and a 30-minute bus ride from Headington Campus.
Swindon Campus is located in the Delta Business Park in West Swindon. The location is close to the Great Western Hospital and other placement partners.
