Central opened its doors on September 13, 1892, as the Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute, with classes in teaching, business and stenography. At that time, few of the state’s teachers received any formal training in teaching, so school founders made teacher training their mission in founding the state’s second normal school.

The Center for Excellence in STEM education’s goal is to provide quality STEM education experiences for teacher education students, K-12 students and in-service teachers. Our intention is to offer programs, which demonstrate the integration of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics through outreach and professional development.

The Office of Institutional Research collects, analyzes, disseminates, and presents information designed to aid planning, decision-making, and policy formation at CMU. OIR reports to a broad spectrum of constituents, including academic departments and colleges, government agencies, and accrediting bodies.

We work very hard to accomplish our mission in our 22 residence halls and three university apartment complexes.

CMU Sports Camps provide opportunities for athletes of all ages to develop their skills in a fun, sportsmanlike environment. In addition to fundamental instruction, campers will be exposed to sport specific strategies and will have the chance to meet new people. Our goal as a Department is to offer sports camps that challenge athletes and promote individual improvement that will eventually lead to athletic success. Use the tabs to the left to navigate through each of our sports camps websites.
