Description
The Johnie D. Smith Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 by the Association of Faculty and Staff of Color (now disbanded) to honor Johnie D. Smith (Class of 1986), CMU professor of African-American history and constitutional history of the United States. Dr. Smith passed away in 1997.

Eligibility
- Committed to the advancement of underrepresented minorities in American society
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Preference will be given to students that reside in the Saginaw, Midland, or Mount Pleasant areas
- Applicants must submit a personal narrative addressing how the award would allow them to achieve their academic goals and advance the cause of diversity at CMU
