The Gabriel Chien Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of history professor Gabriel Chien. 

The award encourages students to look at the world from a global and historical perspective, which was Dr. Chien's lifelong commitment.

Eligibility

  • The scholarship is awarded annually to one student who demonstrates an interest in global and historical perspectives through a written essay.
  • Recipient will be a CMU student who is a U.S. citizen enrolled, preferably, in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, who has demonstrated a global and historical perspective.
  • This perspective will be demonstrated specifically by a written essay on a topic concerning China, a comparitive approach to the study of China, or Sino-American relations.
