History
Michigan Technological University began as the Michigan Mining School in Houghton in 1885. Established by the state of Michigan to train mining engineers to better operate the local copper mines, the school started with four faculty members and 23 students on the second floor of a building on Montezuma Avenue in Houghton.
Education
Today, more than 60 percent of Michigan Tech students are enrolled in our 12 undergraduate and 29 graduate engineering programs across nine departments. Our students and curriculum embrace the spirit of hard work and fortitude our founders once had.

Research at Michigan Tech spans a vast range of expertise: sustainable engineering, the Great Lakes ecosystem, the emerald ash borer invasion, ionic space propulsion, 3D printing, cancer-fighting rice—the list goes on and on. Everyone at MTU is super supportive
I'm really liking my time here! MTU was a great choice! The CFRES department is fantastic and the professors are all always really helpful. I also really appreciate the support from other students and classmates.
It's a rollercoaster ride
The staff at MTU are amazing and super helpful all the time. The campus feels safe and welcoming. Parking and housing can be rough a lot of the time with pretty limiting housing and parking lots. Enrollments are increasing while no new housing or parking is made available. It gets really cold and snowy up here which can suck sometimes but most professors are understanding of that and will try to accommodate.
Yet to start
I have not started my study yet. I am looking for funding since am incapacitated at the moment
