History
The University of Maryland’s proud past stretches back to 1856, when the tiny Maryland Agricultural College was carved from part of Charles Benedict Calvert’s plantation along a dirt road now called U.S Route 1. From its start with 34 students, the institution slowly grew to include engineering and the liberal arts, and to add athletics, women and minorities.

So far so good at UMD
I'm an exchange student and I want to express my personal opinion, I came here at university of maryland one month ago and I currently assess the university extremely positive. The classes are interesting and stimulating, the environment is nice and welcoming with international students. There are a lot of initiatives and things to do.
Strong academics here
The University of Maryland is a great school to attend. There are great academics and the campus is beautiful. The staff cares about the students and there are plenty of resources for students who may need to access extra help academically.
UMD
It's a good university, although social life is hard. There are a lot of people in the university to meet, but it can have a lot of cliques. For most people, it works to be in a club, which there are a lot of in the uvniversity.

Every fraternity and sorority at the University of Maryland, while social in nature, was established by their founders based on a commitment to certain values: brotherhood and sisterhood, service, scholarship, philanthropy and more. They believed that united rather than apart, they could make men better men, and women better women. We believe that fraternities and sororities have the potential to be the most transformative part of the college experience. Our mission is to do everything we can to make this happen.
