The program provides a comprehensive graduate level education designed to prepare students for a successful career in real estate development. The MRED promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to real estate education. It delivers a comprehensive curriculum with a foundation in the business, finance, and entrepreneurial aspects of real estate, paying special attention to the Quadruple Bottom Line: economic viability, environmental respect, social responsibility, and beautiful design.
The Community Planning and Real Estate Development from University of Maryland involves faculty and graduate students from several campus units in: multi-disciplinary research on the fiscal, environmental and social impacts of alternative development patterns; evaluation of growth management strategies (with a focus on Maryland’s Smart Growth programs); technical assistance to state agencies and local jurisdictions; and training programs for federal program managers and state and local officials.
Key facts
A core element central to both community planning and public health is the built environment, which includes human-designed and built surroundings that provide the settings for all aspects of human life, ranging from buildings and homes to parks and recreation facilities. A well planned community includes aspects of public health, while the public’s health requires healthy facilities and a built environment that supports and promotes healthy living.
