  • 1876 - Wageningen University: The state takes over the local council's Agricultural College in Wageningen: the start of National Agricultural Education in The Netherlands
  • 1877 - Foundation of the first agricultural research station in Wageningen (predecessor to the current research institutes)
  • 1888 - The National Institute for Fisheries Studies is set up in IJmuiden (now part of IMARES)

  • The SSC provides information for students about admission, registration, tuition fees, legal residence, etc. 
  • You can also contact the SSC for legal advise on study related cases, study delay related questions, for personal problems you can make an appointment with the Student Dean or Student Psychologist.

  • Price for 2 nights: 70 euro (limited places)

Boerderij Hoekelum
  • Room for 66 students, divided over three buildings
  • Price for 3 nights: 95 euro
  • Including bus transport to and from the conference (during the conference), breakfast, bed linen and cleaning costs

Natuurvriendenhuis de Bosbeek

  • Room for 84 students (42 rooms for 2 persons)
  • Price for 2 nights: 80 euro

Library services

  • By developing and maintaining a, partly public, knowledge infrastructure, Wageningen University & Research (WUR) - Library contributes to the effectiveness of the research done and education provided by WUR.
  • WUR Library has a strong focus on digital collections and we offer world wide access to our collections for WUR users, but restricted to certain conditions of use. 

ICT services

Scaling up innovation for the purpose of a sustainable development of agriculture isn’t moving as quickly as desired. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) provides new opportunities for reaching, informing and supporting agricultural entrepreneurs regarding innovation trajectories.

Medical services

Non-Dutch students must be adequately insured for medical expenses while staying in the Netherlands. This will be checked by the registration officials when you apply for a residence permit.

Campus life

Wageningen Campus has everything to provide you with a fantastic university experience.

The 10.000 students from more than 100 countries are taught by inspirational lecturers and have access to top-quality educational facilities, hi-tech laboratories and an enormous library. 

The campus also has ample social and leisure opportunities.

Sports facilities

Fancy a quick game of squash between lectures, tennis before dinner, or hockey after? 

The Sports Centre De Bongerd is situated centrally to the main university campus and three of the main student houses, with a range of facilities including a swimming pool, and is the base for various sport courses and clubs. 

Alternatively, you might want to do something out in nature, like learning to row in team boats, maybe? Wageningen comes complete with a river to the south of town waiting for you to pay a visit to the rowing clubhouse.

Student clubs

Several kinds of (student) sports clubs are active in and around the sports centre de Bongerd's facilities. Students who possess a WUR card whose sports rights have been activated can join these clubs for free or at a reduced rate.


Wageningen Food Safety Research is accredited for the organization of Proficiency Tests by the Dutch Accreditation Council since 2006. The accreditation is based on ISO/IEC 17043:2010 and covers the quality system of the organisation as well as all the parameters mentioned in the scope.
