The University of Kiel bears the name of its founder, Duke Christian Albrecht of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf, who established the university for his Duchy in the year 1665 – only seventeen years after the end of the Thirty Years' War.
As a state institution, Kiel University has a special responsibility: It offers students from Schleswig-Holstein a broad range of subjects so they can study in state. Kiel University also offers a clearly structured scientific profile that attracts students from all over Germany and the world. Contributing to this are the bachelor and master programs, which are available in almost all disciplines. They are designed to make it easier for international students to get their degrees accepted.
The main focus of the research group „Genetics & Bioinformatics“ is on the identification and basic molecular characterization of genetic susceptibility loci. We employ genome-wide association studies (GWAS) as the main tool to identify genetic susceptibility loci in complex inflammatory diseases. Sample preparation, data generation and analysis all take place in-house, which implies that we are also developing protocols and management systems for these tasks.

Only in exceptions will you be allowed to take out private insurance. Please check this with the International Center. I enjoyed the chance of studying two bachelors at the same time, it enabled me to focus on those things I really wanted to. Organisation anyway was complicated sometimes, due to overlaps in the schedule. But you choose your own timetable, which is pretty nice, because you are quite flexible and can work beside your studies. Teaching quality is good I would say. Especially...
The Economics study program is quite theoretical with lots of models, calculations, inferences. It matchs perfect with people who would like to pursue high studying degree or people working in research field. The university has quite a lot qualified professors with many years in teaching experiences. The facility is not exceptional but it is good enough for students.
Honestly speaking, its being a wonderful academic/professional journey I must confess, filled with mix feelings though. Firstly, I needed to adapt as quickly as possible to my new environment, new culture, friends, Lecturers and above all new approach of learning and exams. This was really fascinating. Secondly, the program is really interesting and well structured....
