La Trobe has been one of Australia's pioneering universities for more than 50 years. Discover our unique history, including our motto and coat of arms.

In 1967, 552 students enrolled at La Trobe University, the third university to open in Victoria, which has grown to accommodate more than 36,000 students, with over 7,000 international students from 110 countries.

La Trobe students are educated to think independently, as well as to behave in an ethical and socially responsible way. Some examples of how La Trobe achieves this include:

  • The Master of Business Administration
This qualification is infused with the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Management Education, bringing it in line with offerings from the world’s best business schools.
  • The La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary
La Trobe is home to the largest university-owned wildlife sanctuary in Australia, which seeks to introduce rare and endangered animals into a predator-free environment.

La Trobe University has a fine history as an excellent university with an enduring social conscience. As part of our Future Ready strategy, our plan is to grow and develop La Trobe's traditional leadership in areas of research, scholarship and learning that matter to the Australian community. Having taken a detailed investigation of our capabilities and strengths, we have identified five Research Focus Areas (RFAs).

Career & Employability supports students in making effective career decisions and developing career management skills.
