emlyon business school was founded in 1872 by the Lyon Chamber of Commerce and Industry and celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2012. Throughout its history, the school has remained true to its origins: entrepreneurial, innovative and humanist.
emlyon business school positions itself around the “early maker” concept. The maker movement was born 10 years ago around the Do-It-Yourself principle. Initially a concept that applied to DIY enthusiasts, it gradually spread to the world of digital and start-ups, uniting a whole community of creators, artisans, entrepreneurs, artists and educators in its wake. It signals a transformation from invention to innovation, from prototyping to the industrialisation of a good idea.
Research lies at the very heart of emlyon's strategy. It is the cornerstone of the school's past and present success, and shall remain so in the future. It is a key aspect of the school's added value, providing the foundation for its international credibility and reputation. It also helps to expand the skills and knowledge of its faculty members and, in turn, benefits its programme participants. This scientific research work underpins the Faculty's ability to achieve its mission. What's more, it enables the school to provide its business partners with critical watch system and ensures that they have access to the very latest knowledge.
Today’s graduates are likely to change role at least ten times during their professional life. The school's entrepreneurial pedagogy equips them to adapt, innovate, take risks, be open to the world. Unlike “learners” receiving knowledge from “knowers”, our students are the driving force behind their own learning project, a new way of learning to suit the new world.
