About

History

Late in 1880, brothers Charles and Augustus Storrs donated land and money to start an agricultural school in Connecticut. More than 130 years later, the University of Connecticut has become one of the top 20 public universities in the nation.

Education

With over 100 undergraduate majors and dedicated employees, students have no trouble finding their passion at UConn. Students have several opportunities to have a great experience at UConn. This includes an honors program, learning communities, study abroad, research awards, and more. 

Research

  • At UConn, our faculty, staff, and students are dedicated to learning more about the world around them through research. With annual expenditures in excess of $200 million, collaborative research is carried out within the departments of our 14 schools and colleges and at our more than 100 research centers and institutes.
  • We are working to enhance the nation’s hardware security at the Center for Hardware Assurance, Security, and Engineering; figuring out how to build everything from jet engines to spaceship parts using advanced three-dimensional printing technology at the Pratt & Whitney Additive Manufacturing Innovation Center; developing sustainable energy systems at the Center for Clean Energy Engineering.

Student services

The Student Activities Involvement Office oversees and provides support to the University of Connecticut's 600+ student organizations. This support includes organizational advisement, registration, financial and event planning, leadership development, organization advisor support and more.

Housing services

UConn Residential Life enhances students’ personal, interpersonal, and intellectual growth by creating safe and inclusive environments, producing innovative programs and services, and fostering meaningful relationships.

The UConn libraries inspire research, advance learning, and empower the community.

ICT services

The primary UITS mission is to facilitate, coordinate or implement information technologies that effectively enable the institutional missions of research, teaching, learning, and outreach. This is accomplished by identifying systems, services, and capabilities that will have a substantive impact on the community and delivering them robustly and at scale. 

Medical services

Primary medical care, a women’s clinic, nutrition services, counseling and mental health services, physical therapy, and more are offered through Student Health Services on campus.

Campus life

Our undergraduates and graduate students attend classes, perform cutting-edge research, and get involved in student-led clubs and organizations at our main campus in Storrs.

The campus also has museums, theaters, cultural centers, and recreational facilities for students to explore. UConn truly has something for every student.

A short drive away, UConn’s Depot campus houses the Center for Clean Energy Engineering, Human Resources, the Community School of the Arts, and Chaplin Cottage.

Sports facilities

A tradition of coaching winning athletes ensures UConn is a standout in Division I sports and fuels our academic spirit. Our teams work hard to compete at the highest level, racking up championship titles and making us proud.

UConn student-athletes are ambassadors for the student body, working just as hard in the classroom as they do in competition. When they’re not training or studying, our athletes give back to the community.

From baseball, softball, and soccer to hockey, track and field, and swimming and diving, UConn athletes consistently perform at an elite level athletically and academically. Our students, alumni, and fans from all over Connecticut – and beyond – rally around Husky pride.

Student clubs

UConn offers over 350 student clubs to help students get more involved in the community. Organizations include academic, volunteer, sporting, performance, and other groups.
