California College of the Arts was founded in 1907 by Frederick Meyer to provide an education for artists and designers that would integrate both theory and practice in the arts. Meyer’s vision continues to the present day.
California College of the Arts offers 22 undergraduate and 12 graduate degree programs, balancing innovation with tradition and integrating theory with practice. Additionally, the college offers public adult and youth programs that are specifically geared toward professional and academic advancement.
Through a focus on advanced digital technologies and material systems, design research and urban agency, CCA strives to develop the next generation of designers who will shape our future built environments.
Through four primary areas of research expertise, the CCA Digital Craft Lab (DCL) supports and promotes advanced research in architectural design, digital fabrication, material science, data visualization, and robotics.

This section offers students information about access to mental-health services, including those offered through the college as well as those outside CCA's purview.
With input from alumni, faculty, staff, and trustees, the college has partnered with Equity Community Builders/Emerald Fund to identify a range of options that celebrate CCA’s legacy and truly benefit the community. Options could include partnerships with mission-aligned organizations -- coupled with alternative uses such as housing -- and other uses that honor the arts and historic aspects of the Oakland CCA campus.
