Arcadia University was founded in Beaver, Pennsylvania in 1853 as Beaver Female Seminary. By 1872, it had attained collegiate status, under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was named Beaver College. The school admitted men from 1872 to 1907, then limited enrollment to women until 1972.

Campus life

The campus is conveniently located at the intersection of Route 309, Easton Road, and Church Road (Route 73), six miles south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Fort Washington exit. Public transportation to campus is available via SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority), Greater Philadelphia’s public transit system. Hotels are available nearby in Fort Washington, Willow Grove, Plymouth Meeting and Center City Philadelphia.

Sports facilities

The athletic and recreation programs at Arcadia University are designed to be an integral part of the educational experience and system of the institution. The philosophy of the program is based on the premise that the opportunity of the student is to have a positive experience in participation and will comprise physical, emotional and cognitive growth and development over the course of the involvement in the program.
