Sam Houston State University, located in Huntsville, Texas, is a member of The Texas State University System. The school was created by the Texas Legislature in 1879 as Sam Houston Normal Institute to educate teachers for the public schools of Texas. The baccalaureate degree was first awarded in 1919.
SHSU offers over 80 bachelor's degree programs, more than 50 master’s degree programs, and six doctoral programs, including nationally-recognized programs in Business, Fine Arts, Education, Mathematics and Criminal Justice.

The Newton Gresham Library serves the research needs of the Sam Houston State University community. The geology program at Sam Houston is smaller giving you more one on one attention. I received an A at field camp and overall feel like I really gained a lot from our program. I have had chances to travel all over the United States and even to Spain with our program. We have great professors that I learned form and have great respect for.
I had a great experience and traveled all over the US to see interesting geology. There are amazing professors I learned alot from and greatly respect.
