We began operating as QUT in January 1989, following approval of our status as a university.

But our history truly begins in colonial times

  • UniHub: Our online service for employers, managed through QUT UniHub, allows you to advertise jobs to our students free of charge.
  • Careers fairs: QUT hosts and participates in annual careers fairs where a wide variety of employers can promote their brand and career opportunities and network with students.
  • Present to our students: Employers can visit campus throughout the academic year to present to students about their job opportunities or to present a workshop on a career-related topic.

Student services

You will have access to a range of free services within your course and outside of class:

  • Language and learning support, such as writing and assignment feedback, study and presentation skills
  • Maths, science and IT support, such as understanding course content, developing STEM skills and guidance with assessment items
  • Career management skills that put you in charge of your future and enable you to investigate career options while building your employability
  • Leadership and development such as attending workshops, conferences and volunteering on campus to understand your leadership style, skills and strengths.

Housing services

If you need help finding somewhere to live, our accommodation services can help you.

You can rent a room in a student residential complex, which usually includes a bed, study desk, some storage, and shared bathrooms, kitchens and common rooms. Costs range from $265-500 a week.

You can rent somewhere to live in agent-operated student accommodation, or organise your own by looking online. Rent is usually $150-300 each week. You could live alone or share accommodation with other people.

We recommend finding somewhere to live close to campus. There are usually lots of options either within walking distance or easily accessed by public transport.

Library services

There are two libraries:

  • Gardens Point Library, which provides resources and services for students studying business, and science and engineering
  • QUT Law Library, which provides resources and services for students studying law.

Our libraries have:

  • group study spaces and silent study spaces
  • printing and copying services
  • computer labs and wireless internet
  • a helpdesk for assistance with assignments.

ICT services

Student centres: 

  • HiQ: Our student centres, known as HiQ, are your place to go for student services, support, IT and general enquiries.

Medical services

  • QUT Optometry Clinic provides lens prescriptions and eye examinations,contact lenses, children's vision, and vision rehabilitation.
  •  Nutrition & Dietetics offers individual consultations as well as nutrition and lifestyle groups and cooking demonstrations.
  • Podiatry provides general foot care, diabetes management, children's foot care and orthotics and treatment for acute foot problems.

Student Life

Campus life

Gardens Point campus: Our business, law, and science and engineering students are based at Gardens Point, right in the centre of Brisbane.

Kelvin Grove campus: The main campus for our creative industries, education and health students, Kelvin Grove is located in the thriving Kelvin Grove Village.

Sports facilities

QUT Healthstream Aquatic Centre, Fitness Club, Cycle Centre and Stadium meet your health and fitness needs with facilities at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove:

  • Swimming pools
  • Fitness Clubs
  • Cycle Centre: The Gardens Point Cycle Centre is a secure cycle hub featuring 213 two tier Josta Tier Racks, change rooms, individual lockers, laundry services, fresh towels and a service and repair centre.
  • Stadium: The Kelvin Grove indoor sports stadium is available for hire and features 50 seats and equipment for basketball, soccer and netball.

Student clubs

The Guild provides a range of commercial and advocacy services. From the Student Rights Hub to the Botanic Bar and Corner Store, the Guild has everything you need to get you through your degree.

In terms of study, the teaching quality is good, all the teachers and staff are very nice and professional. If I had any academic questions in the assignments or practical problems in the lab session, course coordinator and teaching assistants would teach me patiently and explain some abstract concepts concretely.
