Over the years, QUT has grown and changed. From the establishment of the Brisbane School of Arts in 1849, they have been at the forefront of innovation and progress in tertiary education. The Queensland University of Technology Act was passed in 1988, following approval of university status for the Queensland Institute of Technology.

Library services

There are two libraries:

  • Gardens Point Library, which provides resources and services for students studying business, and science and engineering
  • QUT Law Library, which provides resources and services for students studying law.

Our libraries have:

Medical services

QUT Medical Centre is a student support service that assists students with their health needs so that they may achieve an optimal academic performance in the shortest possible time.

It consist of a team of medical practitioners, psychologists, registered nurses, and administration staffs that are experienced in providing a safe, confidential and professional environment for students and staff.

Campus life

Gardens Point campus

Gardens Point campus occupies a prime location in Brisbane’s city centre, nestled beside the Brisbane River, City Botanic Gardens and Parliament House—a position that reinforces QUT’s links with business, industry and government.

Kelvin Grove campus

Kelvin Grove campus is situated two kilometres from the city centre.  The campus offers a fitness club and aquatic centre with gymnasium, 25-metre pool and indoor sports stadium, as well as tennis courts and sports fields, which are located on campus or in the village precinct.

Sports facilities

QUT Healthstream Aquatic Centre, Fitness Club, Cycle Centre and Stadium meet your health and fitness needs with facilities at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove:

  • Swimming pools
  • Fitness Clubs
  • Cycle Centre: The Gardens Point Cycle Centre is a secure cycle hub featuring 213 two tier Josta Tier Racks, change rooms, individual lockers, laundry services, fresh towels and a service and repair centre.
  • Stadium: The Kelvin Grove indoor sports stadium is available for hire and features 50 seats and equipment for basketball, soccer and netball.

Student clubs

QUT Student Guild manages and supports over 80 student clubs and associations that organise social events such as balls, formal dinners, sports teams, and lunch time barbeques. 


Professional organisations support QUT by accrediting a broad range of courses and programs.

One of my dreams is to study overseas and I'm doing it! QUT is a fantastic university. I am so happy and grateful to be accepted. IIt's been really educational and informative. I knew nothing about Social Work, but now I've gained a better understanding of it and been developing my framework. It's awesome.

QUT provided me with a great platform to start my tertiary education. The teaching staff are friendly, knowledgable and helpful and the content we learn is both interesting and challenging. Overall the campus as a whole has a lot to provide students from all walks of life.
