- 1817: The University of Michigan is founded as one of the first public universities in the nation.
- 1837: The University moves its campus from Detroit to Ann Arbor.
- 1848: The Board of Regents establishes a three-member medical department, known today as the University of Michigan Medical School.

Medical services
University Health Service (UHS) can provide most of your health care while you are at the university. Most currently enrolled U-M students (Ann Arbor campus) pay a mandatory health service fee, included as part of tuition, that funds clinical services and well-being services to improve campus health and wellness.UHS provides services for non-urgent and urgent health care concerns.
