The Technische Universität Dresden has its roots in the Royal Saxon Technical School, which was founded in 1828. Today, it is a university that coalesces natural and engineering sciences with humanities and social sciences, as well as medicine.
As a full-curriculum university with 17 faculties in five schools it offers a broad variety of 119 programmes and covers a wide research spectrum. Its focuses of Biomedicine, Bioengineering, Materials sciences, Information technology, Microelectronics as well as Energy and Environment are considered exemplary in Germany and throughout Europe.

I study at the Technical University of Dresden. It's a university of excellence and offers excellent programs. Studying here is fun, and I enjoy going there every day. Everything is done to make students feel comfortable.
Studying MSc Chemistry at TU Dresden honestly feels like stepping into a world where science gets real. It�s not just lectures and exams � it�s long lab hours, group struggles, small wins, and those moments where things finally click after hours of confusion. The program is definitely intense. From the beginning, you�re expected to think critically, work independently, and really understand what you�re doing � not just memorize. The combination of theory and practical lab work is strong, and sometimes overwhelming, but that�s also what makes it valuable. You don�t just learn chemistry � you live it. One thing I really appreciate is how research-oriented everything is. By the time you reach your thesis, you already feel prepared to handle real scientific problems. The labs are modern, and you get exposure to different fields like materials, organic, and analytical chemistry, which helps you figure out your interests. But I won�t lie � it�s not easy. There are times when deadlines pile up, experiments fail, and you start questioning everything. You need discipline and consistency. It�s not a degree you can �pass casually.� That said, the people make it better. Lab partners often become close friends because you spend so much time together. There�s a sense of �we�re all surviving this together,� which builds real connections. Some students even say the shared lab experience creates strong friendships and memorable moments beyond academics. Another plus is that the program is tuition-free, which takes a huge financial burden off your shoulders. And being in Dresden � a relatively affordable and student-friendly city � helps a lot.
Studying the Master�s in Hydro Science and Engineering at TU Dresden has been a truly enriching experience, both academically and personally. As a student, I found the program to be quite demanding, but in a way that really pushes you to grow. The curriculum is very interdisciplinary, combining hydrology, environmental engineering, and data analysis. At first, it can feel overwhelming�especially if you come from a slightly different academic background�but the structure gradually helps you adapt. The courses are well-designed and often linked to real-world water management challenges, which makes learning more meaningful. One of the best parts of the program is the international environment. You get to study with classmates from all over the world, which brings different perspectives into discussions and group projects. It also helps in building a global network, which is valuable for future career opportunities. The professors are knowledgeable and generally supportive, though you are expected to be independent and proactive. This is not a program where everything is handed to you�you need to manage your time well and stay consistent with your studies. Facilities and research opportunities are strong, especially if you are interested in topics like climate change, water systems, or sustainability. There are also chances to work on practical projects and thesis topics connected to ongoing research. Overall, I would say this program is ideal for students who are motivated, interested in environmental issues, and ready to handle a challenging workload. It�s not easy, but it�s definitely worth it if you�re serious about a career in water science and engineering.

The Studentenwerk Dresden’s halls of residence provide the best opportunity for living together with fellow students in close proximity to the University. Living here also avoids unexpected costs. You will find offers for both individualists and shared-accommodation enthusiasts here.
The Central Library is located on campus of the Dresden University of Technology
At this location you will find numerous books and journals as well as the textbook collection, the media collection, the Deutsche Fotothek, the map collection and a lot more.
The Service Desk of the ZIH is the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all students and guests of the Technische Universität Dresden regarding all services offered by the ZIH.
The staff at the service desk assist you with all of your questions regarding the services on offer. Requests which cannot be answered immediately will be noted by the staff and are handed over to the respective experts.
The TU Dresden Welcome Center will provide a up-to-date list of general practitioners and specialised doctors speaking English or other languages. Please ask for it.
You can also look up a doctor who speaks a certain language in the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of Saxony‘s database. Note that the doctor but not all their staff may speak the respective language.
TU Dresden’s main campus is located south of the Dresden city centre and can be easily reached by bus (bus lines 61, 66, 85) and by tram (tram lines 3 and 8) or via the A17 highway (exit: “Dresden Südvorstadt”). The university outer campuses are located in Dresden-Blasewitz (University Hospital and “Biocampus”), in Dresden-Johannstadt (Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology), in Tharandt (Department of Forest Sciences), in Pirna (Institute of Waste Management) and in Zittau (IHI).
TU Dresden's students have ample choice at the Dresden University Sports Centre to enroll themselves in various sports courses from A, like Aerobics to Q like Quidditch to Z like Zumba. There's also competitive team sports opportunities and for very good athletes, TU Dresden even offers scholarships.
The Commission for Quality in Teaching and Learning has accredited successfully numerous study programmes since its constitution on 19 May 2014. Starting with the programmes of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Faculty of Computer Science all the study programmes are evaluated according to a certain schedule. This evaluation is a basis for the accreditation by the Commission.
