Key Facts
Analyzing financial products, minimizing transport costs, optimizing portfolios, steering a company, quickly transmitting data, and lowering fuel consumption would all be inconceivable today without mathematical models or their analysis and solution. As such, the career options open to our graduates are multifaceted and abundant. The Mathematics in Business and Economics Master’s degree program is application-oriented. It aims to provide students with sound skills, scholarly flexibility and creativity as well as a readiness to work together with others. Special emphasis is placed on skills in mathematical areas that are relevant to business and economics, with a concentration in stochastics and optimization. A minor subject in economics supports the practical orientation of the degree program. The Scientific Research and Writing module prepares students for their Master’s thesis. The Scientific Literature – Research Topics module is intended to support them during the writing process. Students can begin their studies either in the winter semester or the summer semester. They also have the option to study part time.Programme Structure
Courses include:
- The program is organized in modules. The curriculum is divided into three semesters. Students write their Master’s thesis in the fourth semester.
- The Mathematics in Business and Economics Master’s degree program comprises compulsory modules in mathematical statistics, probability theory, financial and actuarial science, continual optimization and discrete optimization. Students must then choose another module in the area of stochastics.
- They must also select an elective compulsory field comprising 24 ECTS points with mathematical content from the areas of analysis, algebra, differential equations, discrete mathematics, financial mathematics and mathematics in business and economics, geometry, numerical mathematics, modeling and simulation, optimization or stochastics.
