History

In 1838 we started as the first polytechnic institution in London, established to educate the working people of London. Today we continue to build on this reputation, offering practical, rounded teaching to help students from a variety of backgrounds realise their full potential.

Education

The University of Westminster offers undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses across a variety of subjects – from Architecture and Interiors to Computer Science and Software Engineering, from Business and Management to Media and Communication.

Research

The University’s research achieves impact that is recognised inside and outside academia and informs our teaching.

Two-thirds of our research work has been awarded world-leading or internationally excellent scores in the Research Excellence Framework. We are proud to claim a rich and diverse profile of high-quality research and innovation in a wide range of disciplines including art and design, media and law.

The University has academic experts who have contributed to world-leading research in science such as the Ebola Virus and Breast Cancer Research. Westminster is home to The Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM).

Students can enhance their CV alongside their studies by taking part in the Westminster Employability Award, which recognises extra-curricular activities such as part-time jobs or internships.

Services

Student services

The University of Westminster is home to over 19,000 students from 169 countries.

Our student services provide support and advice throughout your studies. Student Advisers give specialist advice and support on a range of issues including student finance, fees and funding, money management and immigration and visas.

We also have extensive network of counsellors, health service professionals, learning skills experts, financial advisers and an interfaith and spirituality team to support you in every aspect of your life at Westminster. If you have a Specific Learning Difficulty, long-term mental health problem, chronic medical condition or any other disability, we can provide support and adjustments to help you.

Housing services

Whether you want to stay in University halls of residence or would prefer private accommodation, our Student Accommodation team can provide free advice on finding a suitable place to live. They also offer advice about issues such as tenancy agreements and dealing with landlords.

Living in halls of residence gives you easy access to our campuses, either via a short commute, or in the case of Harrow Hall, by being located on campus. Rooms are available for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students. We also have a list of trusted landlords providing private accommodation to students. 

Library services

We have a library at each of our four campuses, each equipped with an extensive collection of books, journals, DVDs and other specialist materials. You can choose from hundreds of study spaces and borrow a MacBook for 24 hours from our self-service facilities. Our e-library provides access to online books, journals and other materials. 

Student Life

Campus life

We have four campuses in London, three in central London and one in Harrow, north-west London.

Our central London campuses comprise Cavendish Campus, Marylebone Campus and Regent Campus. These are all within walking distance of each other and enjoy enviable locations in the heart of London.

Our Harrow Campus is less than 20 minutes on the tube ride away from central London and is our creative hub, home to courses in media and arts. 

Sports facilities

The University of Westminster sports facilities include two gyms offering a range of cardio and weights equipment, classes and personal training sessions; one at Regent Street and one at the Harrow campus.

Students can also use our Sports Hall at Harrow and our 45-acre Quintin Hogg Sports Ground at Chiswick, including football, rugby, cricket and hockey pitches, netball courts, tennis courts, and a boathouse.

Student clubs

University of Westminster Students’ Union (UWSU) is run by students for students, with over 100 clubs and societies covering all interests and hobbies. Alongside the usual sporting activities such as football, rugby, running and rowing, we have societies in everything from anime to musical theatre and yoga.

The SU is also home to Smoke Media, a leading student-run media association which includes the award-winning Smoke Radio as. well as Smoke TV, Smoke Magazine and the student newspaper, The QH.

I enjoyed my time at university learning and understanding the different aspects of law. Unfortunately, the teaching provided did not meet my expectations. However, this did not effect my learning as I was able to learn the content by developing new learning skills.
