About

History

As a rapidly growing centre of industry and innovation in the eastern Greater Toronto Area, throughout the 1980s and early 1990s leaders in Durham Region cherished the dream of establishing its own university. At the time, the number of residents in Durham Region was projected to approach nearly one million by 2021.

Housing services

Fundamental to each student's academic and personal success is the responsibility of being able to both demonstrate self-reliance and identify the needs that require accommodation.At the beginning of each school year you must meet with your disability advisor to create an accommodation plan. First-year students are encouraged to register as soon as they receive their letter of acceptance to UOIT. The accommodation plan details the services and supports that will be put in place or made available based on the documentation provided. Each plan is unique and tailored to your specific needs.

Library services

The North Oshawa Library provides approximately 600 study spaces available on a first-come first-served basis. These facilities consist of a mixture of soft seating, study tables and study carrels.

Medical services

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology has a vital interest in the health and safety of its employees, students, visitors and contractors. The prevention of occupational illness or injury is a major continuing objective and the university will make every reasonable effort to provide and maintain a safe and healthy work and learning environment.

Campus life

As one of Canada's youngest and most dynamic universities, UOIT is rapidly growing in reputation and in enrolment at the undergraduate and graduate levels. To address that growth and ensure our students continue to have access to an outstanding learning environment, UOIT established a downtown Oshawa location and has added new classrooms, labs, study areas and state-of-the-art learning facilities at the north Oshawa location.

Sports facilities

In addition to being the hockey home of the Ontario Hockey League's Oshawa Generals, who play in downtown Oshawa at the spectacular General Motors Centre sports and entertainment complex, the region has a wealth of sports facilities, fitness centres and golf courses. You'll find downhill and cross-county skiing facilities within 30 minutes of the campus. As well, you can enjoy hiking, walking, in-line skating and biking along many scenic trails.

Small campus that I was familiar with, as I completed my undergraduate degree there as well. The role of any social activities falls onto the students as, even at the undergraduate level UOIT does not have a well known social life
