Ohio Gov. James Rhodes’s efforts in the early 1960s to place public higher education facilities within 30 miles of every Ohioan led to the birth of Wright State University.
Dayton was a high-technology center with a need for a highly developed labor force. Community leaders mounted a private capital-fund campaign to secure a joint branch campus for The Ohio State University and Miami University.

Wright State University's Career Center surveys soon-to-graduate students and recent graduates to learn about their plans after commencement. Surveys are conducted online and based on national standards. The survey for each class closes one year after the commencement date and aggregated results are posted on the Career Center's website.

This 308,000 square foot complex houses meeting rooms, a fitness center, swimming pool, gymnasium, the Union Market dining facility, bookstore, credit union, student organizations, student services and more.

The University Libraries include the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library, the Lake Campus Learning Center, the Student Technology Assistance Center, and Special Collections and Archives. The Wright Brothers Collection, housed in Special Collections and Archives, includes Wilbur and Orville Wright’s technical and personal library, family papers, and photographs documenting the invention of the airplane.
Computers in the Dunbar Library have access to a variety of licensed software including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, MatLab, SAS, and SPSS. A complete list of software is available for both Wright State users and guest users.
Student Health Services is your on-campus source for primary health care and wellness services. SHS provides acute and primary care services, promotes health awareness, educates students about preventive care and disease management. Located in the Student Union, we offer fast and convenient care with same-day, walk-in service or physician appointments available.
Wright State University takes pride in its beautiful 557-acre campus, which includes lush forests and a biology preserve. The university’s state-of-the-art facilities include 71 academic and academic support buildings, 33 student residential buildings, and a world-class entertainment and athletics venue. Underground tunnels connect 20 of 22 buildings in the academic section of campus, shielding students and employees from any adverse weather and adding to the university’s national reputation for accessibility for those with disabilities.
The Sport Club program provides the opportunity to university students for recreation, competition, and instruction in a variety of active pursuits. Each club is responsible for its own governing and organization, allowing for student leadership development and growth.
Wright State University is home to over 200 registered student organizations that vary over 10 different categories; academics, coordinating, cultural, honorary, media, recreational, religious, residential, social Greek and special interest.
