Bellarmine College was opened on October 3, 1950, under the sponsorship of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville and with the special assistance of the Conventual Franciscan Fathers. It followed third in a proud line of diocesan institutions of higher learning founded by this diocese, the oldest in inland America. 


Our students pursue an education based in the liberal arts – and in the distinguished, inclusive Catholic tradition of educational excellence, the oldest and most rewarding in the western world. 


Bellarmine University’s students are actively engaged in labs and studios across campus. Bellarmine is committed to providing all students with hands-on research experiences and creative opportunities across the fine and performing arts. 


In its 2013 Best Colleges guide, U.S. News & World Report ranked Bellarmine 11th among southern regional universities. Last year, the publication ranked the university 14th. This is Bellarmine's 19th consecutive year on this list.

Housing services

Bellarmine University offers a range of accommodations and support services designed to assist students with disabilities.  Each person has a unique set of needs, and accommodations are determined on an individual basis, utilizing the student's disability-related documentation. The accommodations and services are free to students with appropriate documentation on file.  

Library services

The W. L. Lyons Brown Library, dedicated in 1997, stands as a visible symbol of the centrality of teaching and learning at Bellarmine University. The services and collection resources of the library support the curriculum and general information needs of the university community.  

ICT services

Through an integration of technology, research, and teaching, Bellarmine is able to provide a learning environment that encourages open communication, collaboration, ethical standards, community improvements, and life-long learning skills. Technology is used to augment the classroom experience, broaden the research environment, enhance communications and provide connectivity to needed systems. 

Medical services

Bellarmine University does not offer a health insurance plan. We refer students to the coverage offered by the ACA. 

Student Life

Campus life

On-campus housing offers you everything you need to survive in college. It provides you with many tremendous advantages: convenience to campus and dining facilities, comfortable living accommodations and a helpful staff, and the opportunity to meet many new friends. You are close to events sponsored by Athletics, Campus Ministry, and Student Activities. It is also easier for residential students to enjoy recreational and fitness activities at the SuRF fitness center. 

Sports facilities

The mission of the Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Center (SuRF) is to provide quality recreational activities, wellness programs, and educational services in a positive non-threatening environment that facilitate the balance of physical, social, and academic growth as well as encourage respect for diversity.

Bellarmine offered a great balance of having a variety of interests and extra curriculars to explore among a moderately sized city while maintaining a close-knit community through it's intermediate population size. However, its History and Political Science departments are incredibly small and offer limited, constrictive avenues to fully explore the possibilities within...
