Bellarmine College was opened on October 3, 1950, under the sponsorship of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville and with the special assistance of the Conventual Franciscan Fathers. It followed third in a proud line of diocesan institutions of higher learning founded by this diocese, the oldest in inland America.
Our students pursue an education based in the liberal arts – and in the distinguished, inclusive Catholic tradition of educational excellence, the oldest and most rewarding in the western world.
Bellarmine University’s students are actively engaged in labs and studios across campus. Bellarmine is committed to providing all students with hands-on research experiences and creative opportunities across the fine and performing arts.
In its 2013 Best Colleges guide, U.S. News & World Report ranked Bellarmine 11th among southern regional universities. Last year, the publication ranked the university 14th. This is Bellarmine's 19th consecutive year on this list.
