The University of Milan was founded in 1924, uniting two institutions that boasted a great tradition of medical, scientific and humanistic studies: the Accademia Scientifico-Letteraria (Scientific-Literary Academy), active since 1861, and the Istituti Clinici di Perfezionamento (Clinical Specialisation Institutes), established in 1906.

Student services

The University of Milan’s Disability Service promotes the social integration of disabled students and University staff, providing them with assistance and protecting their rights. More specifically, it provides the following services:

  • Administrative assistance: help with the completion of forms (enrolments and applications, exemptions from university fees, scholarships, certificate requests).
  • Educational assistance: procurement of textbooks, lecture notes and lesson materials, with particular reference to the loan system that is available to all enrolled students

Housing services

The University provides a refectory and accommodation service, based on criteria of financial need and academic merit.

It offers enrolled students approximately 400 beds, in halls of residence and apartments situated close to the university buildings. The accommodation is equipped with computers and recreational facilities.

Library services

The University of Milan has a network of 47 libraries. Some are dedicated to the main disciplinary areas, while a number of more specialised libraries are primarily used for research purposes.
