History
Benedictine University was founded by the Benedictine monks of St. Procopius Abbey in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago in 1887. The Benedictine Order bears the name of St. Benedict, born in 480, who is acknowledged as the father of western monasticism. In 528, he established the famed monastery of Monte Cassino.

The moment you request information from us you will receive personalized support from a program manager who will answer your specific questions and help you through the admissions process. After your first week of class, you will then be introduced to your student services coordinator who will provide support and resources to assist you on your educational journey all the way through to graduation.

Benedictine University is located 25 miles outside Chicago within one of the safest areas of Illinois. This location allows students to experience both the safety and beauty of suburban life in Lisle, and the close availability of metropolitan life in Chicago.
The University is located just 25 minutes from downtown Chicago and two miles from the train station. Chicago is known for its diverse culture that is welcoming to all. All ethnic groups are represented in the architecture, exhibits, festivals, and restaurants around the city. It is easy to find a little piece of home wherever you go.
