About

History

University education in the Tarragona area goes back to the 16th century when Cardinal Gaspar Cervantes de Gatea founded a university in the city of Tarragona to teach Grammar, the Arts and Theology. This Universitas Tarraconensis was practically wiped out by the reprisals of Philip V after the War of Succession.

Education

The range of academic programmes offer by the URV covers all fields of knowledge: engineering and architecture, arts and humanities, health, and social and experimental sciences. We offer a wide range of programmes including bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctoral programmes, as well as lifelong training programmes for professional development.

Research

The University aims to promote all the research activities of its members and pays particular attention to the strengthening of groups, and the quality and the magnitude of its scientific production.

There are a variety of complex structures that work together on this task and focus on research groups as the basic unit.

Institutes and Centres for Research and Innovation:
  • ICAC - Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology
  • ICIQ - Catalan Institute of Chemical Research
  • IPHES - Catalan Institute of Human Palaeocology and Social Evolution
  • IISPV - The Pere Virgili Institute for Health Research
  • IREC - The Catalonia Institute for Energy Research
  • CITEE – Technological Innovation Centre in Electronic Engineering

Incredible experience
Anonymous rated 5 out of 5 stars

This semester abroad has let me travel around europe which I really appreciate. I have met a lot of people and I can say that I made some friends. I could improve my language skills and started learning another one. I feel more self independent since I moved alone for the first time.

Perfect location close to barcelona, but still a little city, where it is quite cheap to live (rent a room), easy to get to know the city, lots of events and easy to stay in contact with friends

Most of my classes are much more practical than at my local university. I learnt about new technologies and the subjects are surprisingly interesting. You have to learn and prepare for the classes during the semester, not only at the end of it, which I think is beneficial. Shared flats are usually much cheaper than what the university offers, however, you can meet more...
