On 30 December, 1991, the Parliament of Catalonia approved Law 36/1991, and thus created the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). This law determined that the URV had to bring together and organise the university programmes taught in the southern regions and set up new ones as a basis on which a new university with its own personality could be developed.
The URV has twelve centres of its own and two affiliated centres which between them teach about fifty courses, at both first and second cycle level. They also offer postgraduate diplomas, doctorates and master's degrees.
The University aims to promote all the research activities of its members and pays particular attention to the strengthening of groups, and the quality and the magnitude of its scientific production.
There are a variety of complex structures that work together on this task and focus on research groups as the basic unit.

It is a great campus with great conditions for national and international students. Easy to access from highway and smaller roads, many spaces for parking, many places to practice sports, great cafeteria and places to eat. Teachers are very helpful and show great knowledge about themes.
My experience so far has been very positive. I really liked the clear structure of the program, its strong focus on environmental sustainability, and the practical approach that links theory to real-world challenges. The university also provides good academic support and has a strong international environment. One aspect that could be improved is providing more early guidance for international students before arrival. Overall, it is a high-quality, future-oriented master’s program, and I am confident it is a great choice for students aiming for careers in environmental engineering and sustainable energy.
My time as a PhD student at Rovira i Virgili University was a valuable and enriching experience. I was part of the MINOS research group at the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Automatic Engineering (DEEEA), where I developed strong skills and experience in both academia and industry-focused research. It has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers, which means you can enjoy its natural attractions and a rage of outdoor activities such as water sports, hiking and climbing all year around.
The Universitat Rovira i Virgili has two different residence halls for students in the city center. The Sant Jordi Residence Hall offers you singles or double rooms. The new Tarragona Mediterrani Residence Hall has 80 studios for one or two students. However, you can also find accommodation in any of the residence halls, hostels, apartments or shared flats around the city.
What is the CRAI?
A common place for all those services provided by the university that support learning, teaching and research and are related to information and ICT.
The library lies at the heart of the CRAI. It makes information resources and documentation available to support:
Rovira i Virgili University makes available to its university community the open network service, consisting of the possibility of accessing different services and electronic resources of this university from the laptop owned by the user, and for internet extension.
This service allows connection to the University's network (eduroam or CRAI-URV), through WiFi communication.
In Catalonia health care is provided at CAPs (Primary Health Care Centers) and Hospitals.
The CAPs have fix opening hours and you will be assigned one depending on where you live. If you need to see a general practitioner, you should ask at your CAP to be assigned one.
If you have an urgent problem but it is not an emergency, the professionals at your CAP can receive you during the opening hours.
