- Performance
Designed for performers who are committed to improving their skills as instrumentalists and/or singers, both as soloists and in ensembles.
- Composition
You'll be equipped with the techniques and practical experience needed to pursue your own creative goals to a professional level with confidence and imagination.
- Musicology
Develop a solid basis in research techniques and methods in the fields of historical musicology, music analysis, popular music, and ethnomusicology, whilst exploring different music styles and traditions in their historical, analytical, and theoretical perspectives.
- Music Education
Designed for passionate and aspiring educators. This pathway enables you to develop and deliver teaching skills in a wide range of disciplines, culminating in a specialised project. Notable themes considered during the course include leadership, professional development, adaptability, safeguarding, research, presentation and engagement skills.

Curriculum includes:
- In the autumn term, you’ll study a Research Skills module (10 credits) as well as benefiting from instruction in music leadership and public engagement – relevant to contemporary musicians from all backgrounds within the discipline (20 credits).
- You’ll then select one module (30 credits) which focuses on your core teaching and supervision for the programme. This will be either Stage 1 Major Study or The Theory and Practice of Teaching Music (30 credits).
- In the Spring term you’ll choose two optional 30-credit modules, which allow you to hone your skills and/or complement your interests.
Stage 2
- Stage 2 comprises of the Major Project module (60 credits). You’ll choose between performing a public recital, completing a specialist education project, or submitting a portfolio of composition/studio-based work or an extended written project (e.g., dissertation).

- If your intended area of specialism is performance, please provide an unedited recording of a short, recent performance.
