Overview
At Baldwin Wallace University teachers will develop strategies to teach literacy more effectively and thereby enhance student achievement.
Literacy concentration courses can be taken as part of the MAEd program or independently for the PK-12 reading endorsement.
Highlights
- The literacy program includes 50 hours of field experience, including a practicum in which students work with children who have been referred for reading difficulties. Students will evaluate, plan and implement remedial programs for them.
- Courses are designed to produce an endorsement on the Ohio teaching certificate in PK-12 reading as established by the Ohio Department of Education.
- Successful completion of Ohio Department of Education approved exam(s) is required for teachers to quality for the PK-12 reading endorsement.
- The PK-12 reading endorsement meets Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee requirements. The endorsement positions teachers to assess, plan for and implement programs that increase students' literacy skills. Teachers will have the credential along with the knowledge and skills needed to provide the intensive instruction for struggling students that is called for in the guarantee.
