About

There are two options for the K-12 Special Education degree at the University of Central Missouri . The first is for professional educators interested in pursuing advanced studies in the areas of Learning Disabilities, Emotional Disturbance, Intellectual Disabilities, Early Childhood Special Education, and Autism and Severe Developmental Disabilities.

Overview

These courses of study provide you with an enhanced understanding of persons with exceptional needs in schools and in larger society.

The second option is for the preparation of teachers who will serve children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in widely diverse settings, including public and private schools, hospitals and clinics, or as consultants to schools, families and other educational agencies. This option is 100% online study.

We offer a master degree in K-12 Special Education at the University of Central Missouri. The need for highly qualified special education teachers is increasing as never before. The last two decades has been a period of critical shortage of special education teachers across the United States.

It is estimated that the United States will need an additional 15,000 teachers per year over the next several years to meet the needs of the ever-growing population of special needs children entering America’s schools. Anyone pursuing a career in this area of professional preparation will have little difficulty finding rewarding employment after graduation.
