The name Fontys was given to this University of Applied Sciences on 1 September 1996. The name derives from the Latin word ‘fons’ which means ‘source’, a source of knowledge for students. Fontys is a merger of several Dutch Higher Education Institutes located in the south of the Netherlands. Some of these institutes were founded in the early 1900s and have a long and profound educational history.
Fontys offers 29 international Bachelors and Masters programmes in English covering a wide range of fields: ICT, Engineering, Fine and Performance Arts, Marketing, Business, Communication and Physiotherapy. We also welcome a large number of International students to join one of our 50 English-taught exchange programmes.
The Fontys Research Agenda forms an integral part of the Fontys Quality Agenda for education, whereby research has been positioned in such a way that it contributes to the continual improvement of the quality of education. Fontys opts to link all research to education.

Fontys in Eindhoven has several facilities in place that will enable you to gather information regarding your specific field of studies. This can be achieved in several different ways at the ‘mediatheek’ (Media Library). The Media Library is a learning facility where you can consult and/or borrow a wide range of information sources and materials (such as books, reports, videos and CD-ROM’s). The system that is in place allows you to process the information that you obtain immediately. It is also possible to peruse the catalogues pertaining to other institutes, such as the Tilburg University
Everyone in the Netherlands must have insurance cover for medical expenses. The type of health insurance that you will need will depend on your personal situation.
In the Netherlands, the ‘huisarts’ (doctor, general practitioner, GP) provides full medical assistance in accordance with the standards designated for the practice of medicine by medical professionals in the Netherlands.
Our international course programmes are conducted at our campuses located in Eindhoven, Tilburg and Venlo. All campuses are equipped with computer rooms, libraries and student restaurants. Wireless Internet is available throughout the campuses, enabling you to bring your laptop to Fontys and to work, study, search for information and check your e-mail wherever you happen to be at Fontys.
There are numerous studying and student organisations that may appeal to you during your time at Fontys. Please make enquiries at your Course Department, or ask other students for more information. Some of the student organisations are actually more like social clubs, whereas others place more emphasis on culture and/or studying. Please note that not all of these associations are necessarily linked to Fontys.
Not the highest quality guidance from professors, but the assignments and practical learning is interesting and diverse.
It was a great time at Fontys. The study content was good and the projects were 'near' to real life. For example we had projects to create an own startup or an own agency. This helped a lot because you do not only learn but also apply new things. To show a disadvantage: the way how different German and Dutch professors interpret results was confusing sometimes.
I️ have not yet started my studies at Fontys. My Masters program begins on the first of September, 2020.
