History
Founded in 1881, UoL is the original ‘redbrick’ university and a founding member of the Russell Group, associated with nine Nobel Prize winners. As a globally connected institution with a worldwide reputation they’re proud of their pioneering research, teaching excellence and international collaborations, including the hugely successful joint venture Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU).
Education
Across hundreds of undergraduate and master’s programmes Liverpool offers outstanding academic teaching, informed and delivered by inspirational experts. Awarded Gold in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF 2023), they are one of only seven Russell Group universities to achieve this highest quality award. Many of their degrees include a Year in Industry to provide invaluable real-world experience and an opportunity to develop professional networks. 83% of their students achieve the highest attainments of a First or 2.1 degree. They also provide pre-sessional and free in-sessional English language courses through their English Language Centre, and Foundation and Pre Master’s programmes.
Research
Research is central to everything they do, 91% of the research is world leading. The multidisciplinary research drives breakthroughs in; Materials Discovery, developing new materials for industry and consumers. They address global challenges in Infection Resilience to deliver solutions for better preparedness, faster response, and stronger defences. Via AI for Life they collaborate across computer science, engineering, health and social sciences to ensure innovations serve human needs, in Particle physics they help uncover the secrets of the universe and play a key role in global facilities like CERN. The Therapeutics innovations transform global health, developing medicines for prevention, treatment and cure.

Smooth application process and great communication
The application process for University of Liverpool has been incredibly welcoming. I really appreciated the clear communication from the admissions team and how easy it was to find specific details about the Nursing Science modules. Liverpool itself is a major draw—it’s a vibrant, historic city that feels perfect for a student lifestyle. The only thing that could be improved is providing more detailed, early-stage guidance on student accommodation options or local living costs, as navigating those from abroad can be a bit overwhelming at first. My experience so far has been professional, exciting, and highly supportive. University of Liverpool feels like a place that truly values its international community, and I would highly recommend it to any prospective student looking for a balance of top-tier academics and a legendary city culture.

They provide amazing facilities and an outstanding support network to ensure you get the most out of your studies and time at university. In addition to their award-winning Careers & Employability service and Accommodation, their amazing Guild of Students, libraries, IT Services, Sports and Fitness Centre, English Language Centre and Global Opportunities, their International Advice and Guidance team work with international students on everything from specialist immigration advice to help with personal and practical issues. They also provide Disability Advice and Guidance, Money Advice and Guidance and Student Health services.
Housing services
The University offers a great choice of quality accommodation that includes 5,000 student rooms across their Greenbank student village, city campus residences and private partners. They guarantee housing for new international students, who accept an offer to study. Fees range from £175-£280 per week depending on the residence and room type. Their city campus residences (Vine Court, Crown Place, Melville Grove and Philharmonic Court) are within easy walking distance of all academic departments, the Sports Centre, Guild of Students and city centre. Greenbank Student Village is a stunning, modern property set in beautiful parkland, three miles from campus.
Library services
Their two fantastic libraries open 24/7 during term time, providing access to millions of books, journals, digital resources, computers, study spaces and their popular Know-how sessions. These free online and face-to-face workshops and resources cover everything from essay planning to exam preparation. The libraries provide a perfect environment for students and expert, friendly staff.
ICT services
Across campus, there’s over 2,000 computers available, with high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the university. They offer free software, including Microsoft Office, SPSS, and Matlab, for installation on personal devices. Their specialist mobile apps give easy access to timetables, coursework, and academic resources on the go, keeping you connected wherever you are.
Medical services
Brownlow Health is a general practice providing GP services to students on campus, including eConsultation to direct students to the correct service. The University also provides a Mental Health Advisory Service, Wellbeing Team and Counselling Service to support students experiencing mental health issues by providing the most effective help for their needs.
Campus life
As a city centre campus at the heart of the vibrant city of Liverpool this university has it all. Award-winning student accommodation and libraries, an amazing sports centre, shops and food venues. The Guild of Students where everything happens offers great food, spaces to chill out and relax like the Courtyard or the Sphinx bar, over 200 societies to join, and Mountford Hall, one of the biggest live music venues in the city. The University even has two museums on campus (the VGM and Garstang) and everything is only a short walk away. Liverpool is famous as the home of The Beatles, Liverpool FC and Everton FC, and the city also has a wealth of culture and many parks for students to explore. With more galleries and museums than any other UK city outside London, there is also an incredible range of restaurants, bars and shops to appeal to all budgets and tastes.
Sports facilities
Their excellent sports facilities include an on-campus Sport and Fitness Centre with a 25 metre swimming pool, sports halls, squash courts, dance and spinning studios, bouldering and climbing walls, gym, weight training area and organised group exercise classes to suit all levels of ability. There is also a gym and sports facilities at Greenbank Student Village and sports pitches and training facilities at Wyncote Sports Ground off campus. There's free activities on campus too with a running track, container gym and half basketball court.
Student clubs
Life at Liverpool isn’t just about academic success. They offer an exceptional student experience to match their teaching excellence. Access to their vast choice of extracurricular activities will help you to develop both personally and professionally. Their Guild of Students offers more than 200 student-led societies to get involved in and many volunteering opportunities. Mountford Hall in the Guild is one of the biggest live music venues in the city. Sport Liverpool offers activities to help you to relax and stay fit including 53 sports clubs, and a range of excellent sports and recreational facilities. Global Opportunities offers the chance to experience something new.
