The University of Cyprus aims to become a leading educational and research institution that will distinguish itself internationally through the promotion of scholarship and that will be recognized as a centre of excellence in the Mediterranean region. The main objectives of the University are twofold: the promotion of scholarship and education.

About

History

The University of Cyprus was established in 1989 and admitted its first students in 1992. It was founded in response to the growing intellectual needs of the Cypriot people, and is well placed to fulfil the numerous aspirations of the country.

Education

University of Cyprus aims to establish itself as a Pioneer Research Institution achieving International Scientific Recognition in European Higher Education, offering Competitive Programmes and to become a Centre of Excellence in the wider Euro - Mediterranean Region. The main objectives of the University are twofold: the promotion of scholarship and education through teaching and research, and the enhancement of the cultural, social and economic development of Cyprus. In this context, the University believes that education must provide more than simply accumulation of knowledge.

Research

The impact of scholarly research on society is complex and multidimensional. Some aspects are directly quantifiable, for example, the number of doctoral titles awarded in an academic year and in which disciplines, others, such as the impact of basic research, are very abstract. The need to couple basic with applied research is nowwidely recognized, as the knowledge acquired through basic research can -and should- be utilized for the solution of real life problems that concern society. In most areas the dividing line between basic and applied research is not clear, and this distinction becomes even more obvious as the problems under consideration become more complex and multidimensional.

Career

The Office aims at enhancing the professional skills and competences of students and graduates. The connection with the labour market is mainly achieved through the organization of presentations for employment prospects in a variety of business disciplines, a Business Game competition and a Career Fair, with more than 70 potential employers involved. The Career Office is the link between students and graduates with the labour market and the postgraduate studies.

The teachers are friendly and eager to help. The level of difficulty of this program is high. A lot of assignments, mid-terms, quizes, projects, presentations for each course. 4 courses on average per semester. There are many labs, that you can stay all day and night to finish your homework.
