The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) has as its primary mission the production and the dissemination of knowledge in areas that serve both the national and the international economy and society as well as the edification of responsible citizens.



  • The University’s history can be traced back to 1903, when the great national benefactor Grigorios Maraslis donated 250,000 gold drachmas to establish in Athens a Merchant Academy analogous to similar academies in operation abroad.


  • AUEB offers a large number of Master's Programs, either at the MSc or the MBA level, mostly in Greek but also in English. To be admitted to a MSc program a candidate has to demonstrate good academic performance in his/her undergraduate studies, good score in the GMAT or GRE score, and maturity to pursue studies at the graduate level. 
  • AUEB also offers a very strong Doctoral Program. Students who get admitted to the Doctoral program have to follow one semester or one year of courses, pass the qualifying exams, and then undertake a Doctoral research, submit a Doctoral Thesis and defend it successfully in front of an academic jury.


AUEB's Research Center was established in 1983. It aims at providing the institutional framework which facilitates and supports the research carried out by Faculty members, in the general fields of economics, management and computing.

The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) is well-known for its research orientation:

  • Basic theoretical research, which aims at the production and advancement of scientific and technological knowledge. This type of research is published in international scientific journals, proceedings of scientific congresses etc.
  • Applied research and consulting, which aims at the resolution of major problems of the economy and society, and of the firms.


  • AUEB Career is addressed to students and graduates of the University while facilitating their communication and contact with the Office of Interconnection. The objectives of the Interconnection Office are to integrate students and graduates of the University into the labor market, as well as to offer educational assistance.

Student services

AUEB provides a series of services to its students, which have two objectives: to broaden students’ intellectual horizons and to ensure high quality standards within the University premises. 

The International Relations Office of the University was established in 1989. The main objectives of the Office are:

  • European Union educational programs,
  • participation in international student fora and exhibitions,
  • representation at international conferences and congresses,
  • organization of seminars, educational visits and cultural meetings,
  • promotion of the University activities abroad,
  • creation of new cooperation with foreign higher education institutions,
  • counselling to incoming and outgoing students.

Library services

  • The Library and Information Center of the Athens University of Economics and Business was founded in 1920 and is the oldest economics academic library in Greece. It is located on the first and second floors of the main building. It offers a rich collection of printed and digital material that covers all the academic subjects offered by the university.

ICT services

  • The AUEB Management Portal is an innovative web portal that provides the opportunity for equal access to knowledge related to management and entrepreneurship issues. Providing on-line research services. AUEB on-line surveys provides the full range of research questionnaires (with a wide choice of question types, data storage, reporting).

Student Life

Campus life

  • The Athens University of Economics and Business is centrally located in downtown Athens. The main building of the University is located at 76, Patission Street in Athens, two blocks away from the Archaeological Museum. The backside of the building faces the Pedion Areos Park and the Panellinios Sports Club. 
  • Four more buildings in the area cover the University's needs in offices and teaching rooms. One of them is located at 12, Kodrigtonos Street and the other at 12, Derigny Street. The Research Center is located a few blocks away, at 46, Kefallinias Street and the Graduate School building is located at Louzitania building at the corner of Evelpidon and Lefkados Street.

Fantastic experience!! I gained a lot of knowledge about accounting and finance through projects, publications and innumerable hours of studying! However, I would prefer more internships in companies in order to get more practical experience...
