The University of Economics, Prague (VŠE), founded in 1953, is the biggest public university of economics in the Czech Republic. VŠE has six faculties offering applicants a broad spectrum of bachelor, master, PhD and MBA study programs.

In 1919 The Commercial College (VŠO) was founded as an independent department of the Czech Technical University. It had specializations in Wholesale Trade, Banking, and the Organization of Industrial Companies.


The mission of the University of Economics – VŠE, Prague is to provide Czech and foreign students with higher education, of a superior quality, in a wide range of managerial, economic and other degree programs at Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree levels. These courses of studies help the graduates to obtain excellent employment on the international labor market. All VŠE study programs are provided by highly qualified, competent and motivated academics.


The university is closely linked to the business sector as well. VŠE graduates find employment easily in the labor market. They get important positions in both the private and public sectors with a focus on various industry fields, the banking sector, accounting and auditing, sales, marketing, or information technologies. Česká spořitelna, a.s. (Erste Group) is a long-term general partner of VŠE.

Student services

International Office of University of Economics, Prague sends about 1 000 students to nearly 50 countries all over the world annually.

Housing services

Most of the rooms are structured in units 2+2, which means one unit accommodates 4 persons (two twin rooms), with a common sanitary facility (toilet, bathroom with two washbasins and shower), kitchen, (refridgerator, cooker) and an entrance hall with 4 wardrobes.  Single rooms have the same structure of the  unit. There is a small number of units containing single rooms with their own sanitary facility. Smoking is not allowed in the whole hall of residence.

Library services

VŠE Library offers print and electronic information resources, provides consultations, organize seminars open to the public that are targeted at all aspects of work with information. The library also participates in some classes at VŠE with the information literacy lectures.

ICT services

Computer labs are located in the rooms SB18, SB19 (out of courses schedule) and the university library. There is free access to WiFi on the university campus if you use your own laptop. Study Centre and Internet access are available in the dormitory, too.

Student Life

Campus life

All students of VSE obtain a student ID card which allows them to use the facilities and services offered by the university, i.e. library, canteen, computer laboratory, WiFi connection, etc.

Sports facilities

The university has its own sports facilities. Students may use the modern, multipurpose sports arena. The gym has a surface of 1,400 m2 and is sufficient for three volleyball or two basketball courts, handball, floor ball, indoor football, and other sports. There is an artificial climbing wall and a rehabilitation exercise room. At the dormitory facility area, there is an artificial turf football field. Summer and winter sports courses are organized too.
