Transforming Adversity into Academic Ambition
Choosing where and what to study has been one of the most important decisions of my life. During my undergraduate degree in B.Sc. Ed Physics Education, I developed a deep interest not only in understanding physics concepts but also in exploring how scientific knowledge can be researched, improved, and applied to solve real-world problems. Studying Physics Education helped me build strong analytical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for inquiry. I particularly enjoyed courses that required investigation, data analysis, and critical thinking. These experiences sparked my desire to pursue a Master’s by Research, where I can contribute meaningfully to knowledge in science and education. My academic journey has not been easy. After losing my parents, I had to support myself financially while completing my undergraduate studies. Balancing academics with financial responsibilities was overwhelming at times, but it strengthened my resilience, independence, and determination. These challenges have shaped me into a focused and hardworking individual who values education deeply. Now, I am seeking to pursue a Master’s in Research in the UK or Canada because of their strong academic environments, research facilities, and global reputation for excellence. I am particularly drawn to institutions that encourage innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and impactful research. My long-term goal is to contribute to scientific research and improve physics education through evidence-based practices. For students trying to choose their study path, my advice is to choose a field that excites your curiosity and aligns with your long-term goals. The journey may not always be easy, but passion and persistence make a difference. Receiving this grant would not only support my academic ambitions but also help relieve the financial burden I have been carrying alone. It would allow me to fully focus on advancing my research skills and contributing positively to the academic community.
It has been a good interaction as a beginner.
Since, I have just been enrolled at the unuversity of york. I liked about the cordial and fruitful interaction with its staff involved in recruiting or enrolling new students. They were friendly, and professional all the time I teached out for help till I was enrolled in the program of MPA (online). The emails were always detailed guiding me what to do and what I ought to follow to get ready for classes. This motivated me alot, and it gave me a clear picture of its organization and credibility of its degree as well that I will ataain after completing the studies. However, I hope this experience depicts the standards stricted at university of york.
Resolving Community Conflicts
My study experience has been both challenging and rewarding. Throughout my academic journey, I have had the opportunity to gain knowledge, develop critical thinking skills, and interact with people from different backgrounds. The learning environment helped me grow academically and personally. What I really liked most about my studies was the dedication of some lecturers who were committed to helping students understand the course content. I also appreciated the opportunity to engage in discussions, group work, and research activities, which helped me develop communication and analytical skills. However, there are areas that could be improved. For example, improving access to learning resources such as updated books, internet facilities, and practical learning opportunities would greatly enhance the learning experience for students. Additionally, more interactive learning methods could further support student engagement. Overall, my study experience has been very valuable. It has equipped me with important knowledge and skills that motivate me to continue pursuing higher education, particularly in the field of Peace and Conflict Studies, where I hope to contribute to building peaceful and stable communities.

Student services
The International Student Support Team provides dedicated services for international students, including visa advice, English language support, and a free Manchester Airport collection service. At the start of Semester 1, they host orientation events to help students settle in, open a UK bank account, and meet other students. Additional general support — covering finances, accommodation, learning needs and more — is available at the Student Hub.Every York student is assigned an academic personal supervisor for the duration of their studies. Supervisors can offer guidance on academic and pastoral matters, support students’ personal development, and signposting to other university resources.
Housing services
The University of York offers a range of accommodation options located on or close to their campus, with a choice of let lengths available for added convenience.Since the University has a collegiate system, rooms are allocated through its 11 colleges. Students can choose between catered or self-catered, and ensuite or shared bathroom. All room types include access to a shared kitchen. There are also many reputable private accommodation options near campus, and overnight accommodation available to commuting students. If students decide to live off campus, they’ll still be allocated a college for the duration of their studies, so they can access the extra support and activities colleges provide.
Library services
The University’s main library holds more than one million print books, as well as printed and digital journals. It offers a range of study areas from silent study zones to innovative thinking spaces. There's also access to several specialist libraries on campus.
ICT services
Internet access is available across the University of York campus via Eduroam. Students can connect their personal devices to Eduroam using their University account. There are 17 computer spaces, with over 660 computers across campus. Printers are available for copying, scanning, and printing at a small cost.IT support is available on weekdays via phone, email, or in-person appointments.
Medical services
There is a healthcare centre close to the University of York campus which offers GP appointments and a repeat prescription service. Students can also access mental-health support at York through student wellbeing officers, or through the Open Door service, which employs a team of mental-health practitioners.
Campus life
At York, students can find their campus on a green, lakeside site just minutes from York city centre, with world-class spaces for research, teaching and living.As York is a collegiate University, all new students become members of one of the University's 11 colleges. These small, distinct communities become students’ home from home. Colleges provide students with a network of support, friendship, facilities, and a full calendar of events and activities to help them settle in. The campus is packed with places to eat and drink, catering for a diverse range of dietary requirements. There is also access to convenience stores, where students can pick up their groceries and essentials.
Sports facilities
The University's award-winning sports facilities are recognised as some of the best in the region, helping students to unwind and stay healthy. Facilities include a competition-standard swimming pool, floodlit 3G football pitches, an Olympic-sized outdoor velodrome, a floodlit road cycle circuit, an athletics stadium and 39 acres of grass playing fields.
Student clubs
The University of York Students’ Union is run by students, for students, and acts as a voice for the student community, ensuring important matters and concerns are heard by the University. It also manages an active schedule of events, provides dedicated support and advice, and runs clubs and societies.Students can find their hobbies and interests at York, with hundreds of student societies and sports clubs on offer, such as:
