History
Founded in 1963, the University of York has quickly become one of the world's leading universities, carving out a reputation as an academic powerhouse with a clear focus on excellence in teaching, research and innovation.
Education
York offers over 200 undergraduate degrees as well as 230 postgraduate taught and 150 research degrees across sciences, arts and humanities, and social sciences.

Research
As a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, York is committed to enhancing its position as one of the world’s premier institutions for inspirational and life-changing research. In the most recent UK Research Excellence Framework (Times Higher Education, REF 2021) York was ranked 10th for research impact (excluding institutions which have submitted fewer than four units of assessment).

Career
Students can access career support from day one. York’s training programmes, careers fairs, internships and enterprise advice enhance a students’ career prospects or can help them prepare for future study. The Careers and Placements team can provide one-to-one support, offering bespoke advice to international students. York also works closely with business, industry, governments and international organisations to design courses that ensure graduates have the skills required to pursue their dream career. There is also a range of placements and year-in-industry opportunities available.

Student services
York’s dedicated network of support services ensure its students get the best from their time at university. International Student Support Advisers provide practical guidance on visas and immigration matters, healthcare entitlements and opening bank accounts, whilst academic supervisors and skills centres help students to thrive academically. The University’s college teams and Students’ Union are also there to help students transition to university.
Housing services
Moving to another country can be a daunting prospect, but with the University's accommodation located on or very near to its compact and safe campus, students will soon feel at home in York. York's accommodation is centred around eleven colleges, each offering a welcoming, supportive community. There's a variety of room types and options to suit every budget.
Library services
The main campus library holds more than one million print books, as well as printed and digital journals. It offers a range of study areas from silent study zones to innovative thinking spaces. There's also access to several specialist libraries on campus and in the city centre.
Medical services
There's a healthcare centre close to campus which offers General Practitioner (GP) appointments and a repeat prescription service. York's Open Door team, consisting of mental health practitioners and student wellbeing officers, also provide support to registered students experiencing psychological or mental health difficulties.

York's beautiful parkland campus offers world-class teaching and learning spaces and an excellent environment to live and learn. It is packed with places to eat and drink, offers a variety of sports facilities, and there are various places to buy essentials.
The University is located in the historic city of York, which is regularly named one of the best places to live and visit in the UK. The city is full of culture and renowned for its rich history and heritage. With a wide array of shops, museums, festivals, sporting and cultural activities, restaurants, and cafes it’s big enough to feel lively but small enough to be friendly.
Sports facilities
The University's award-winning sports facilities are recognised as some of the best in the region, helping students to unwind and stay healthy. Facilities include a competition-standard swimming pool, floodlit 3G football pitches, an Olympic-sized outdoor velodrome, a floodlit road cycle circuit, an athletics stadium and 39 acres of grass playing fields.
Student clubs
Joining a society is a fantastic way to meet new people, pursue interests or try something new. From astronomy to aerobics and politics to poetry - York has over 250 student-run societies and more than 65 sports clubs for students to get involved in. If students can't find what they're looking for, they can even start their own.
