In 1958, the University of New Orleans opened its doors as the first fully integrated public university in the South. There are currently two fiber optic research laboratories established in rooms 609 and 606 of the Engineering Building . These facilities are routinely used for investigational and applied research in the areas of fiber optic telecommunications, sensor development, and most recently, remote source lighting and illumination.

The Privateer Enrollment Center (PEC) is the one-stop-shop for all UNO students. Located on the first floor of the Earl K. Long Library, the PEC provides streamlined services in admissions, financial aid, first year advising and student success coaching.

The collection includes picture books, fiction, nonfiction, audiobooks, short stories, special collections, the Dear America series, and published books by elementary and high-school students. We provide other resources for education professionals including videos, curriculum materials and professional literature.
All students enrolled at UNO have access to Student Health Services, regardless of whether or not they have insurance of any kind. However, we only provide primary care. In order to provide access to specialist care, emergency room, and other services, Student Health Services arranges for an optional low-cost injury and sickness insurance policy.

The UNO Recreation & Fitness Center has 87,000 square feet of space dedicated to a variety of fitness and recreational activities. This state-of-the-art facility has everything you need.
