About

History

In 1958, the University of New Orleans opened its doors as the first fully integrated public university in the South. The University has educated students from all 64 Louisiana parishes, all 50 states, and more than 130 countries, bringing together a variety of talented and motivated students so that they may learn, interact and pursue their career goals.

Education

For years, U.S. News & World Report has ranked UNO among the national universities whose students graduate with the lightest debt loads. Nearly 77% of our students receive some form of financial assistance every year, totaling over $41 million dollars in financial aid and scholarships.

Research

There are currently two fiber optic research laboratories established in rooms 609 and 606 of the Engineering Building . These facilities are routinely used for investigational and applied research in the areas of fiber optic telecommunications, sensor development, and most recently, remote source lighting and illumination.

Career

UNO alumni have the highest average early-career salaries among graduates of all Louisiana universities, according to a 2016 Payscale.com report.

Services

Student services

The Privateer Enrollment Center (PEC) is the one-stop-shop for all UNO students. Located on the first floor of the Earl K. Long Library, the PEC provides streamlined services in admissions, financial aid, first year advising and student success coaching.

Housing services

At the University of New Orleans, you will have the opportunity to form friendships and relationships with people from diverse backgrounds that can benefit you and your career long after you leave the University. With these new friends, you can enjoy campus life and the charms of the city of New Orleans. Our mission is to provide our resident students with the highest quality living and learning environment at a reasonable cost.

Library services

The collection includes picture books, fiction, nonfiction, audiobooks, short stories, special collections, the Dear America series, and published books by elementary and high-school students. We provide other resources for education professionals including videos, curriculum materials and professional literature.

Medical services

All students enrolled at UNO have access to Student Health Services, regardless of whether or not they have insurance of any kind. However, we only provide primary care. In order to provide access to specialist care, emergency room, and other services, Student Health Services arranges for an optional low-cost injury and sickness insurance policy.

And when you come here to our campus you’ll see the other side of the city—the savvy, entrepreneurial one that’s fueling a renaissance. We’ll even make it easy to find a hotel for your stay (you might meet one of our Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration students working there). And we can’t wait to show you around our beautiful lakefront campus.

Sports facilities

The UNO Recreation & Fitness Center has 87,000 square feet of space dedicated to a variety of fitness and recreational activities. This state-of-the-art facility has everything you need.

Student clubs

UNO has more than 125 student organizations. There's something for everyone, and if there isn't, it's easy to start your own.
