Overview
Students may apply for either the MS in psychology or the Ph.D. in psychology program. Both MS and PhD students will earn a MS degree, however the terminal MS students do not complete a thesis. Students applying to the Ph.D. program will choose one of two areas of concentration, Applied Developmental Psychology or Applied Biopsychology.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Graduate students who complete the Applied Psychology program at the University of New Orleans will demonstrate competence in the empirical literature on the social, cognitive and affective basis of the science of psychology.
- Graduate students who complete the MS degree will demonstrate competence in the empirical literature on individual differences and the biological basis of the science of psychology.
- Graduate students who complete the MS degree will develop the ability to communicate psychological knowledge, develop and test hypotheses that advance or support current knowledge.

General requirements
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or a 4-year degree equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad.
- Applicants enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's degree or international equivalent will be considered for conditional admission.
- Although all applications are reviewed, applications that exceed a GPA of 3.0 and a GRE total score above the 50th percentile are substantially more likely to be accepted. Students with lower scores will be considered only when their record, experience, and recommendations indicate a high likelihood of success.
