Saint Mary's traces its earliest beginnings to 1802 when the Reverend Edmund Burke, later Bishop Burke, taught young men at the Glebe House, on the corner of Spring Garden Road and Barrington Street. The boys’ school grew first into a college and then into a university, never wavering in its commitment to education and community service.
The research mission of Saint Mary’s University is to engage in research that applies to, and is valued by, communities from around the corner to around the world. Our mission also involves cultivating intellectual curiosity and creativity within our faculty and students.

The Student Health Centre is your family clinic when you’re away from home. As a university clinic, we understand how an illness or injury can impact your education. We treat illness and injuries quickly, so that your studies don’t suffer. Plus, alumni are eligible for services for up to six months after graduation. International students may be seen for an extended period of time.

The Sport Clubs program at Saint Mary's University is designed to provide additional opportunities for individuals interested in a specific sport to develop and improve their skills, by participating recreationally or competitively in league play on and off campus. Sport Clubs are voluntary, non-profit, student-led organizations. Members assume the leadership and financial responsibilities of club activities and are required to adhere to Department of Athletics & Recreation and University guidelines and policies.
